A Little about Brooke:
Brooke is an activist, explorer, essayist and author. He wrote the book, "Halflives: Reconciling Work And Wildness." This memoir has been called pensive, humorous and conflicted. In the book, Brooke recounts his journey to find a balance between the call to duty and the call of the wild. As a lover of wilderness adventure, he found it excruciating and downright depressing to keep leaving nature in order to live the life that was expected of him. Eventually he realized that he had two halflives that make his life whole - work and nature. He also wrote "Escalante: The Best Kind Of Nothing."

Like his wife, Terry Tempest Williams, Brooke uses a journal-like narrative to combine vivid stories from the natural world and reflections on human nature.

Brooke will be the Featured Reader at the MP&W Open Mic on Friday, May 21 (see the Meeting Schedule page).
